Hey Everyone! Today is going to be the first Favourite Friday!!! These are just the things I will be discussing this month doesn’t mean that it will be make up, music and books every month, it will vary. So without further ado, let’s get started!
I want to start off by saying that I’ve been buying more cruelty-free make up rather than animal tested products. It’s something I really care about; I like to do a lot of research on a specific brand when I want to buy a certain item. I’ve been wearing a lot of make-up lately and trying out a lot too, but these 3 items are the ones I’ve been enjoying the most and they’re all cruelty- free J. First off: The Make-up Revolution London Redemption Palette, the Iconic 3 one. I really like this palette and use it pretty much daily, it has a nice selection of neutral shades as well as shimmery shades for little extra bedazzling. I like that the shades last a long time, they don’t crease and are easy to blend. The next 2 items are both from NYX. I really like NYX products, they’re cruelty-free but they’re also good quality, I own quite a few products from them and I really don’t have any complaints. The Hot Singles Eye Shadows for example, I only have 3 but I wouldn’t mind buying more as they’re nice smooth eyeshadows and they have a nice selection of shades. The one I’ve been using a lot is in the colour ‘Stiletto’, it’s a light taupe shade and I’ve been using this mostly on my lid as an eyeshadow base. I only own one blush from them but nonetheless I really like it a lot. It’s easy to blend, lasts a long time, doesn’t look cakey and they have nice blush colours as well. The blush is the High Definition Blush in the colour ‘Hamptons’ and it is a pinky-coral shade that gives a nice natural flush of colour.
I’ve been reading a lot during lately, with school not having started yet at the beginning of the month, I had a lot of time. One thing I do is start multiple books at the same time, not for any reason at all, I just do. It’s a bad habit, but hey, I can enjoy multiple books all at the same time so it’s good. The 3 books I have been reading this September are:
- The Origins of Species by Charles Darwin
- A History of the World in Twelve Maps by Jerry Brotton.
- And A Long Way to A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
The Origins of Species is a good book if you’re really into sciency things and the evolution. I just really wanted to read this book because I became really interested in History a couple years back and I love history and I specifically like the period of enlightment where it was so important for scientists and naturists to express the way the world worked. Education in the way the world was set up and how life began, became a really important subject for everyday life in that period. I really like learning about the important educational value of certain things in that period. So I decided to read the book for educational reasons and the fact that I wanted to know on what facts Darwin based his research and how he was treated fort his way of thinking and such. I really do recommend reading the book if you’re interested in the evolution and theories surrounding evolution as well as Darwin’s way of thinking.
A History of the World in Twelve Maps is another book about history but now much more the geographical value of history. The writer begins the book with an introduction to the different perspectives of world maps and how some people look at the world in one way but others in another way. The books are really interesting as it takes you through time and chronologically gives you the basic history of the world and the introduction of maps into the world of what it is today and how people used to look at the world in a geographical way. I can’t really explain what the book is about, you should really read it, especially if you like world maps (check!) and if you like history (check!). The book features pictures of different world maps from all kinds of ages and helps you build a picture with the stories.
The third book, A Long Way to A Small Angry Planet, is a book that I randomly came across in the bookshop and it just caught my attention, mostly because of the cover (it has a beautiful stargazy sky on the front) but also because of the title. I had never read sci-fi books and I never thought I would like them, even though I do like sci-fi films. But I just decided to give it a try, and when I started reading it I couldn’t put the book down! It’s such an unusual story and amazing creativity and imagination from the writers’ side. It’s a really good book if you’re very much of the details or even if you like forming specific pictures in your mind with what you’re reading, which I really like. The book is about a girl(Rosemary) who leaves her home planet and starts working on a spaceship (The Wayfarer) that travels through the galaxies. On the ship are different species whom she befriends and learns about their way of living. And then the crew gets an offer of a lifetime and takes it and that’s when the real adventure begins. When I bought this one I also bought the second one, which I can’t wait to read, but unfortunately, halfway through this month, I lost the first book, I can’t find it anywhere and AHHHH. But I might just get a new one and read it again I also I think I just put it somewhere and just forgot where and I haven’t really really lost it but oh well.
I have been listening to 2 of my favourite artists a lot this month: Lana Del Rey and Oh Wonder. Oh Wonder is like my favourite band and they came out with their new album about 3 months ago and I’ve been listening to it like mostly non-stop. As well as the new Lana Del Rey album, like non-stop. Oh Wonder has something really mellow about their songs and so relaxing and peaceful and it really creates this vibe of relaxation. Ultralife has been just like their last album (Oh Wonder OW) where there’s not one song that I skip of don’t like, which is really rare, OW couldn’t do that with their first album and neither with this album. All the songs are so good and my favourite ones are Slip Away, Bigger Than Love and Waste. When they released their promotional singles for the album they announced that they were selling signed copies of the album as well. I usually play songs on Spotify but I had to get the album and hearing the songs on an actual radio rather than on your phone or whatever is just amazing. You can hear all the individual instruments and it’s really exciting to hear!
Lana Del Rey her new album, Lust for Life has also been a favourite, I love her music style and the way she shows diversity in her voice and songs. I like they hopeful future vibe of this album, considering all the things going on in the world lately. It really shows where she stands as an artist and her opinion on these things. My favourite songs on the album are: White Mustang, Tomorrow Never Came (with Sean Ono Lennon AHHHHH) and Heroin. Her music style gives me vintage vibes, I like her Born to Die album a lot too!
